How to created a basic HDR effect

published | Tags: #HDR #photos

HDR is an effect that you can add to pretty much any image to make the colors and contrast really pop, almost as if the picture was taken in a dream.  It really looks great for old cars, chrome, and bright colors. There are many different methods, some which are a little more complicated then others.  But here is a method with Photoshop to slightly mimic the HDR effect.

Open an image in photoshop. Click on Image > Adjustment > Shadow/Highlights.

From the menu, apply the following settings:

    Shadow Amount: 50%

    Tonal Width: 45%

    Radius: 44px

    Highlight Amount: 65%

    Tonal Width: 65%

    Radius: 46px

Afterwards, go back to Images > Adjustment > Brightness/Contrast.

Adjust these settings to your likings. Here are some examples.
